Tips for Incorporating Wallpaper into Your Home Interiors
When it comes to wallpaper, the choices are endless. You can shop for couture, faux, contemporary, classic, traditional, and hand painted wallpaper all in our showroom. This can make choosing just the right wallpaper for your home feel like a very daunting task. And then there are other considerations. Do you go for bold color or muted tones? Should you go against type and use a glam style wallpaper with your contemporary furniture? Should you use wallpaper on your accent wall or cover all of the walls in your living room?
Here are some tips to guide you through the process of incorporating the right wallpaper into your newly designed room.
Consider your color palette
A foundation is to a house as a color palette is to your home interiors. If you plan to add wallpaper as an accent to your existing room, identify matching and complementary colors and try to find a wallpaper that matches your findings. If you want to start something new, find a unique wallpaper that you’re over the moon about, and figure out how you can use slipcovers and reupholstery in fabrics that will complement your new choice in wallpaper. As matching hues are considered in your choices, you can’t go wrong in creating perfect pairings.
If you’re feeling lost, be sure to check out the Thibaut wallcovering books in our showroom. Their beautiful photos (as seen below from the Greenwood Collection) provide inspiration for exquisite wallcovering and fabric pairings.
Cast wallpaper against “type”
Isn’t it great when one of your favorite actors or actresses is cast in a movie against type, and it actually works? For example, who would have thought that Charlize Theron, the modelesque beauty who stars in movies like The Italian Job and soon to be released Fate of the Furious, would be so believable as a frumpy female serial killer in Monster? Feel free to “go against the grain” when embellishing your interiors with wallpaper design. And take your time making a good choice. After all, properly coordinated, your wallpaper can highlight everything else in your room, including your window treatments, blinds, shades, top treatments and more.
Place your wallpaper in surprising places
When it comes to wallpaper, it’s best to “keep them guessing.” Imagine your enjoyment and your guests’ surprise when you use your favorite damask print as a highlight to embellish the recessed shelving where you keep your big screen television or the shelves in your library.

And using unexpected choices with complementary florals or dissimilar objects with stripes may create a surprising but beautiful dissonance. Here’s an example of how you can pair wallpaper and fabric that work together in perfect harmony.
Consider making your wallpaper, wall art.
Instead of choosing a type of wallpaper, choose a wall art experience. Would you like to situate your living room in an “arboretum” or a “rainforest” for example? While you may not be able to transport it physically, you can create the feeling of living in a faraway place by using wall art like these from Vervain.
We hope these tips will successfully guide you through the processes of integrating wallpaper into your home. Remember, one of our designers would be very happy to guide you through the process of selecting just the right wallpaper to highlight your interiors, so visit our showroom!
