Custom furnishings featuring decorative fabrics are not designed to be washed. The decorative fabrics are paired with other materials (lining, trims, crinoline, etc.) which react differently than fabric to washing and drying. For example, never remove cushion covers for washing as it can result in non-uniform appearance and may cause shrinkage.
Every fabric features a cleaning code on the information tag. Use the table below as a reference when cleaning:
| Definition | Definition | Instruction |
| W | Water-Based Cleaner | Spot clean with the foam only of a water-based cleaner such as mild-detergent or upholstery shampoo. Use sparingly and avoid over-wetting. |
| S | Solvent Cleaner | Spot clean with a mild, water-free, dry-cleaning solvent (Carbonza or Renuzit). Use sparingly in well-ventilated room. |
| S-W | Water-Based or Solvent Cleaner | Spot clean with solvent or water based cleaner following the above instructions. |
| X | Vacuum Only | Clean this fabric only by vacuuming or light brushing to prevent dust/grime accumulation. Do not use water-based or solvent cleaners |
When cleaning small spots, follow these expert tips:
- Technique - Blot. Don't Rub. Vigorous rubbing causes stains to penetrate fabrics thereby making them harder to remove.
- Testing - Test your cleaning technique and agent on a small, hidden area of your fabric and wait for it to fully dry before proceeding.
- Liquid Spills - Attend to these immediately. The longer they sit, the more likely the liquid is to penetrate the fabric.
- Thick Spills - You should often let such spills dry before cleaning. For example, mud should first be allowed to dry, next brushed off and lastly cleaned.
